Azure is where a lot of infrastructure engineers land when their organization runs Microsoft workloads on-premises — Active Directory, Windows Server, SQL Server, System Center. The tooling and identity model feel familiar, but the cloud-native patterns still require a mindset shift. I've mapped the core Azure services to their traditional infrastructure equivalents, outlined the subscription and IAM model, and highlighted the areas that trip up engineers coming from VMware and on-premises Windows environments.
